About Elgin, Oregon

Elgin is nestled at the foot of the Blue Mountains on the northern edge of the Grande Ronde Valley. It is within 20 minutes north of driving time of La Grande, the site of Eastern Oregon University. Both La Grande and Eastern provide outstanding cultural and education opportunities for Elgin residents.

Approximately 2,000 citizens reside in the growing Elgin community. Many community members actively participate in school programs and provide continued support for school activities.

Notice of Budget Hearing

A public meeting of the Elgin School District #23 will be held on June 16, 2014 at 6:15 pm at 111 So. 17th Street Elgin, Oregon. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014, as approved by the Elgin School District Budget Committee. A summary of the budget is presented below. A copy of the budget may be inspected or obtained at 111 So. 17th Street Elgin, Oregon, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m..

Diana Croucher

Diana has been a paraprofessional in the Elgin School District for 14 years, and for the past 10 years has worked in Elgin High School’s special education department. Diana’s students truly have a respect and appreciation for her and the help she has been able to provide them through her quiet but persistent demeanor. She patiently guides students through their work until they have a clear understanding of the material. Diana’s sense of calm helps students to remain composed as they struggle through information to reach understanding. Great job, Diana!

Dirk Bortz

Dirk is in his fifth year as a math teacher at Elgin High School. Dirk truyly cares about his students’ learning and success in his math classes. Student OAKS math scores increased 20% this year from last year thanks to Dirk’s dedication to students. He leads his region’s “Singleton” math Professional Learning Community. Dirk takes his job seriously and works diligently to push himself to greater heights as a math instructor. He understands the importance of supporting students, and his dependability, creativity and passion for education shines through his students’ successes. Congratulations, Dirk!
