Hands in the air for Emily! She is recognized as a Husky Humanitarian for courage and resiliency! Mrs. Anderson states, "Emily displayed courage and resilience today in Career Ed while giving her career presentation. Emily is typically very quiet and tends to be shy, and is much more comfortable with small groups. Today, however, she pushed past her fears and out of her comfort zone! She modeled true courage and resilience!" Emily, thank you for modeling that we can all do hard things!

A group of students have been selected to help build a new class at the junior/senior high school called Self Management. These young men have been courageous and creative in taking on any challenge Mrs. Sorensen has put before them. They will be instrumental in creating ways for students to master goal making, team work, strong communication skills, mindfulness, self regulation skills and healthy life-long lifestyle activities. They are all bold trail blazers that are having fun while making strides toward personal growth!

Mayor James Johnson called me about Nathan and his beautifully crafted pens. Mayor Johnson purchased a few of Nathan's pens on his way to Salem. And during his conversation with State Senator Bill Hansell, James handed him a pen because the Senator was signing a document. Senator Hansell commented about what wonderful craftsmanship it was . . . thus, the conversation ended with the card above!  We wanted to surprise Nathan, so I drove him to the Mayor's office so James could share the details. During the conversation, Nathan shared that it was in Mr. Adam's woodshop class that he learned how to make the pens. Since learning these skills, Nathan has purchased between $300-400 worth of tools and sells them in All For You Salon and More. What a heart-warming story, that involves our talented woodshop teacher Mr. Adams, a former student who owns his own business and is currently serving as Mayor of Elgin, and a current student who is taking the skills learned in school and transferring it into a profitable business!

In case you do not already know this, we have an award winning music director and an incredible group of musicians at Elgin JH/SH! Five members of the Elgin High School Band auditioned and were invited to participate in the Oregon All State Symphonic Band. This is an unusually large number of kids to be selected from a small school, so please let's applaud in our hearts and minds for their acknowledgement! And, look at how stunning Mr. Murphey and his musicians look in this photo!
