Superintendent/Elementary Principal Organization: Elgin School District Closing date: Monday, April 1, 2024 The Elgin School Board welcomes qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent/Elementary Principal. This position would officially begin on July 1, 2024 and would include a one-year contract through June 30, 2025. The Elgin School Board is interested in selecting a Superintendent/Elementary Principal that would be interested in continuing in a permanent position if the relationship is deemed a good fit during the “Interim” period. Elgin is located in the NE corner of Oregon at the base of the Blue Mountains. In Union County there are 5 small school districts as well as a larger (although small still) District in La Grande. Elgin community residents are active in activities presented at the school, and engage in many events provided to enhance the community. Music, PE, ART, and CTE programs are additions to the core curriculum in the District. Elgin School District serves 400-450 students in grades K-12 in a 4-day school week, with occasional Fridays for staff professional development. Stella Mayfield Elementary is home to approximately 250 students Pre-K through 6. Qualified candidates should have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the Elementary level. Successful candidates would have experience in Instructional Strategies and classroom management at a level they can lead, instruct, and demonstrate to staff. The next Superintendent for the Elgin School District will need to have a strong understanding of school budgeting and financial management. They need to provide leadership, while developing a method to share their learned knowledge, as well as soliciting leadership skills from the staff they will supervise. The next Superintendent in the Elgin School District should be a good communicator who is able to share ideas clearly, prioritizes listening, welcomes feedback and engages all stakeholders to ensure each voice is heard. Collaborative leadership and inclusive should be recognized as they learn from and contribute to the learning of others, while placing a high value on building long-term relationships. They should be an invested leader willing to immerse themselves in the district and community as they lead educational innovation. High level of commitment to students and families experiencing poverty and mental health issues that impact school attendance Salary and Benefits shall be negotiated to include a salary commensurate with comparable school districts in the region, plus appropriate additional benefits. The calendar length shall be 210 days, with a 4-day school week and 9 professional work Fridays. When recess was over, the friend still needed the toy as it was making him very happy. Ben let the friend hang onto the special toy until the friend arrived back to class."
