In case you do not already know this, we have an award winning music director and an incredible group of musicians at Elgin JH/SH! Five members of the Elgin High School Band auditioned and were invited to participate in the Oregon All State Symphonic Band. This is an unusually large number of kids to be selected from a small school, so please let's applaud in our hearts and minds for their acknowledgement! And, look at how stunning Mr. Murphey and his musicians look in this photo!

Hands in the air for Hailey for being recognized as a Husky Humanitarian! Mrs. Anderson states, "Resilience, Kindness and Compassion! Kailey continuously exhibits kindness and compassion towards others. Today, Kailey exhibited resiliency in her speech class. She struggles with the confidence to speak in front of her classmates. Lots of awesomeness going on in JH Social Studies! They are studying Egyptian civilizations and mummification techniques, and with a cross-curricular link to osmosis in science class. How? They are mummifying apples to understand the process, and to model preservation techniques.

I believe Ms. Oveson is a wonderful candidate for the Humanitarian Husky Award because she spreads excitement and school pride, encouraging Elgin students to get involved and try something new. Students see her energy and school pride through all the innovative ideas she brings to Elgin Jr/Sr High. I see Lynique’s pride and enthusiasm when she takes the initiative at our assemblies encouraging students to get up and get involved. I really liked what she did at the Thanksgiving ‘Husky CHEERS’ Assembly where she talked about giving back and doing something for others, not just for yourself. She told students that even though they may not know the meaning of giving to the community now, one day they will look back on the community service done that day, and realize why it was important for the community but was also really good for the soul.

When she is struggling, she will ask for help and push forward until she achieves the success she is looking for to show her best self!" Thanks Kasey for being such a strong role model for all of us!
