District Maintenance & Grounds

District IPM Information

From time to time, it may be necessary to use pesticides registered by the Environmental Protection Agency to manage a pest problem. The district is required to notify staff, students, and parents anytime there is a scheduled application of a pesticide at any of our school campuses. In that notification you will find the expected application date, name of the pesticide being applied, the EPA registration number of the pesticide, and other information. Also, the area that is to be sprayed will be posted 24 hours before application and 72 hours after application. Application will take place when there is minimal risk for exposure such as Fridays, weekends or summer vacation. Notification will be posted here on the Elgin School District website under INFORMATION, then District IPM Information.

District IPM Plan

If there are scheduled dates, they will be shown in the table below.

During the months of May through September, the grounds crew will be spraying herbicides for weed control. The areas that will be sprayed will be marked with signs to identify what is being sprayed and when it will be safe to reenter the area. The herbicides that will be sprayed are Weedmaster, EPA Reg #71368-34, Gly Star Plus EPA Reg #427750-61 and Imazapyr EPA Reg #226-534.
